Rules

NCAA Rules Apply with a few exceptions

Exceptions:

•       The game consists of two forty-minute halves.

•       There is no overtime play; games end in a tie.

•       There are unlimited substitutions.

•       Both teams can substitute on goal kicks.

•       Offensive team can substitute on corner kicks.

•       Teams may substitute on sidelines. If the offensive team substitutes, the defense may also substitute.

•       Players receiving a yellow card must leave the field until the next dead ball, with the exception of the goalkeeper.

•       The home team is expected to supply ball boys/girls as necessary for proper pace of play.

Disqualifications :

•       Players or coaches receiving a red card must leave the game. They are also disqualified from participation in the next game. Coaches may not attend the game.

Note: Any player receiving two red cards in a season will no longer be able to play.

•       Players receiving two yellow cards in a game are disqualified from playing the next game.

•       “3-2-1” Rule for Yellow/Red Cards: A player who has received three yellow cards at any point during the season is disqualified for the next game. If the same player receives two more yellow cards during the same season, the player is disqualified for the next game. A player that receives still another yellow card (6th card by this point) during one season is disqualified for the remainder of that season. (A red card counts as two Yellow Cards.)

•       Note: Team Yellow/Red Card Threshold. A team within the EIL is limited to 11 yellow cards during any league season—including both regular season and the EIL tournament. A team that receives a 12th yellow card will be deducted one point from the league standings. An additional point will be deducted from the league standings for each even-number yellow card (i.e., 14th, 16th, 18th, etc.) received after the 12th. (A red card counts as two yellow cards.)

NO EIL Tournament

EIL Tournament

•       The top eight finishers in the league will play in the tournament.

•       Seedings will be based on league rankings.

•       Teams will be divided into two pools.  Pool A will consist of seeds 1-4 and Pool B will be seeds 5-8.

•       A tie breaking system is utilized for tournament seeding purposes if W/L record of teams is identical and there is a split in head to head competition.

o       Step 1 - Head to head competition

o       Step 2 – Results versus other league opponents beginning with the top team and working down (for example: if Berwick and Concord had identical records and finished tied for 4th in the league and split the games between them, next results would be examined between Berwick and the 1st place team, 2nd place team, etc. If Berwick and Concord both lost to both 1st and 2nd place teams, but Berwick split with the 3rd place team, while Concord lost twice to the 3rd place team, then Berwick would be seeded ahead of Concord. In this example, Berwick would be seeded 4th and Concord 5th.)

o       Step 3  - If a tie cannot be broken in this manner, a coin flip will be used to seed teams.

•       Please note that point differential is never used to decide seeding.

•       The format will be single elimination. There will be no cross-pool play in the tournament.  Each team is guaranteed two games.

•       The tournament director will contact coaches and athletic directors with all other pertinent tournament information prior to the tournament weekend.

Important note: Mouth guards do NOT have to be worn!
