Fingerprinting Information

Background Check

• The Maine Principals' Association, per our contract agreement, requires that all high school/middle school sports officials have a background check. Further, the background check MUST be done utilizing the Maine Department of Education system that requires that you be fingerprinted as part of the process. You must use the system as defined by the DOE:

        - It does not matter if you have been fingerprinted before.

        - It does not matter if you have had a background check before.

• To start the process, go:

                - On this page, for directions, click on 'How to Apply for a Background Check (CHRC) Only'

        1) Log in or create an MEIS account and provide the information. See the link on the page above. Directions provided at 'How to Apply for a Background Check (CHRC) Only'

        2) Get an appointment with IndentoGO to get your fingerprints done.

REMEMBER, THERE ARE TWO STEPS. YOU MUST COMPLETE BOTH STEPS TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS.

Finally, once you have completed the process, you must provide the information to the Secretary/Treasurer. The State will no longer mail out background check certifications. To check on the status of your application, go here:

        - Click on the right-hand-side: 'I DO NOT have a MEIS Account'

        - Enter the required information

        - Print the screen or somehow get that information to the secretary/treasurer.

Note: It is YOUR responsibility to provide the appropriate information to the secretary/treasurer.
